Alexander Technique For All
We are a small 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Portland Oregon dedicated to telling people about the Alexander Technique. In Alexander’s day, the Alexander Technique was well known and appreciated among scientists (Sherrington, Nobel prize in Physiology), philosophers (John Dewey), writers (George Bernard Shaw, Aldous Huxely), performers (Keanu Reaves, John Cleese, Madonna), as well as prominent politicians (Sir Stafford Cripps, Leader of the House of Commons under Winston Churchill), etc.
The Alexander Technique has a unique approach to improving human functioning that doesn’t fit well in our usual categories. By improving overall coordination, it offers a unique tool for self-care and preventive care, while improving performance of people of all ages and walks of life, at the same time as being the most cost-effective option for difficult problems like back and joint pain – and a growing body of clinical trials bears out what we have always known.
We think you will be pleased to learn more about the Alexander Technique from our site. Please take some time to stop and read about something that is both old and new, a scientifically validated SKILL for LIFE.
To promote awareness of and accurate knowledge about the Alexander Technique among decision-makers, organizations, professionals, and the community at large, and among specific populations who may benefit from the Alexander Technique.
To promote knowledge of, and contribute to, science relating to the Alexander Technique. To promote the ideas of the Alexander Technique as set down in FM Alexander’s four books, especially the concepts of the use of the self and unity of self, and how the Alexander Technique relates to education and society in general.
